Faux fur pillow – Use your decorating and sewing skills to make a pillow bench cushion for a cozy window seat, bench dining table or a coat rack in the lobby. The cushion will add an accent to the room, and provide seating at a low cost. A pillow cushion is a different one from other cushions because it is a solid rectangle of high density foam, instead of a swollen cushion made with loose fill. This may be a weekend project, less if you have experience with sewing. Measure the bench for which you are going to make the cushion. Buy a 5-inch thick piece of high density foam 1 inch shorter and 1 inch narrower than the bench. Cut two pieces of extra-loft batting foam, each one the same size as the cushion to cover the top and bottom.
Measure the circumference of the mattress foam, then cut a piece of foam batting 5 inches wide, and the length of the circumference. It’s fine to cut this last piece into two sections. Spray each piece of foam batting with a thin layer of glue spray. Align the batting piece with its corresponding foam cushion section, then press down firmly so that the batting adheres to the cushion. Cut two pieces of decorator fabric every 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the bench cushion. These parts will form the upper and lower part of the shock absorber cover. The extra 2 inches is to make sure that the cover is not too tight, as well as to take into account the seam allowance, which is the distance from the edge of the fabric the seam will make to sew two pieces of fabric.

Measure the perimeter of the top cover. Cut a piece of fabric decorator that is the length of the foam pad plus 1 inch, and 6-1/2 inches wide for the bench cushion reinforcement cover. Adjust the stitch dial of the sewing machine so that the machine sews six stitches to the inch. Use a multipurpose polyester thread to the fabric and decorator. Place the two ends of the bracket together with the right sides facing each other. The right side is the side of the fabric that can be seen when the lid is put on the cushion. With the sewing machine, use a straight stitch to sew the two ends together, making the 1/2 inch seam from the edge of the fabric. Pins from the top of the cover’s cushion cover bracket with the right inside. Place pins about six inches apart, perpendicular to the edge of the fabric.
